Dalaman Tourism Guide

DALAMAN

UDalaman is know by many simply as “an airport”. Nothing could be further from the truth.

DalamanDalaman is now rapidly becoming an investment area for many Europeans purchasing property for investment in Turkey, this seems due to many factors including the town being announced a main tourist area (designated by the Turkish authorities) from 2005 onwards. Plans for new marina’s and a golf course are underway.

Dalaman town itself, has many shops, restaurants, bars and tea gardens and is growing quickly due to the investment in the area.

Dalaman in fact has its own huge natural beach, although not commercial ‘yet’ it is still pleasant and hosts lots of wildlife.

Dalaman exists for its airport , which serves Marmaris , Dalyan , Kas , Fethiye and nearby towns.

There’s nothing wrong with Dalaman , a tolerably nice little Turkish Mediterranean farming town 5.5 km south of the coastal highway. But for travelers the Dalaman Airport , 5.5 km (3.4 miles) south of the town, is the only real reason to pass through. ( Bodrum to the west and Antalya to the east have their own airports .)

Infrequent Havas airport buses travel from the airport to Marmaris and Fethiye, and private transfer services meet planes and transport passengers to Marmaris and Fethiye . Dalaman’s bus station has limited service to other places you might want to go, but you’ll have to take a taxi the 5.5 km into town to get the bus, though.

Standing at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Turkey is a country of fascinating contrasts where the ancient cultures of the East and West combine. Alongside superb, sandy beaches and modern resorts you’ll discover forested mountains and remarkable ancient ruins.

Marmaris is one of the largest and most-developed of Turkey’s resorts. The Old Quarter is a maze of narrow streets packed with traditional bars and colourful shops. The wide, palm-lined seafront promenade follows Uzan ali Beach – a long, narrow strip of volcanic sand.

About 8km along the coast is Icmeler. With well-kept sand and shingle beach and good facilities, this resort is popular with families.
